BP Deepwater Horizon Settlement

The Background

On April 20, 2010, an explosion and fire on Transocean Ltd drilling rig Deepwater Horizon (licensed to BP) resulted in the death of 11 workers and the injury of 17 more. The subsequent sinking of the oil rig in 5,000ft of water resulted in an oil spill that was seen to stretch 5 miles. The Coast Guard says remote underwater cameras detected that the well was leaking 5,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd).

As the major oil spill spreads and threatens the U.S. Gulf of Mexico ecosystems and economies, the worst damages have yet to be seen, especially throughout the state of Florida. As government officials prepare for the worst and hope for the best, fishermen and businesses throughout the south have already begun to experience damages.

The Settlement

A settlement fund has been established and the firm is actively representing businesses all over the Southeast in recovering money pursuant to the BP spill. In order to recover, a business need not be based on the Coast, and need not have a direct loss associated with the spill. Virtually any business can qualify. In fact, we represent all different types of businesses, including distribution companies, law firms, car dealers, restaurants, and oil station companies, just to name a few.

Virtually any business can qualify, and the process for determining if you qualify is efficient and non-invasive to your business. Call us today if you would like to know if your business could qualify pursuant to the Settlement. Note that you can determine if you qualify even before you have to submit an application for recovery. And, you never need to file a lawsuit; the settlement is simply an administrative process.

If you have questions, or need someone to determine if you qualify, please do not hesitate to contact us.

July 2014

A one-sentence order issued by the Supreme Court in June has rejected BP’s latest attempt to halt payments owed to BP oil spill victims. For more information, read BP Rejected by Supreme Court on Gulf Payments Reprieve on Bloomberg.com.

"The team at Hollis Wright were there for my husband when no one else would take his case. Not only did he work hard and recover money that we were owed. Without the help of Hollis Wright, we couldn't have afforded the care my husband needed and I would have lost him much sooner. We'll always consider you a part of the family." Donna B. Jemison, AL
